Who AM I ? Identity, Heritage, and the Power of Narrative.

Welcome to my first blog post, where I invite you to journey with me into the depths of self-discovery and storytelling. As I sit here, pen poised above the blank canvas of this page, I find myself pondering a question that has echoed through the corridors of my mind: Who am I?

My name is Dahlia Ge'ez, a weaver of tales, a curator of words, and a guardian of stories. My literary journey, much like the ebb and flow of the ocean tides, has been shaped by the voices of those who came before me. From the haunting tales whispered by my grandmother under the Jamaican moonlight to the powerful prose of Maya Angelou, Octavia Butler, and Langston Hughes, I have been guided by the wisdom and creativity of countless storytellers who have paved the way.

With each word I write, I feel the weight of responsibility upon my shoulders—a responsibility to honor the gift of storytelling that has been bestowed upon me. For storytelling is not merely a pastime; it is a sacred duty, a vessel through which we can illuminate the dynamic and multifaceted stories of people of color. It is through storytelling that we can honor the rich legacy of our ancestors, celebrate our triumphs, and shed light on the injustices that continue to plague our communities.

As an Afro-Caribbean educator, I recognize the power and privilege inherent in my role. I understand that the stories I choose to tell, the narratives I choose to uplift, have the potential to shape hearts and minds, to inspire change, and to spark conversations that transcend generations. It is a responsibility that I carry with humility and reverence, knowing that the stories I tell have the power to shape the world around me. So, who am I? I am a storyteller, a guardian of stories, and a torchbearer of truth. I am Dahlia Ge'ez, and I invite you to join me on this journey of self-discovery and storytelling, as we explore the depths of our collective humanity and celebrate the richness of our shared heritage.

Embrace each moment with gratitude and wonder,
